Dates 2026–2027
Mantra
ॐ नमो ब्रह्मणे नमस्ते वायो त्वमेव प्रत्यक्षं ब्रह्मासि
Om namo brahmane namaste vayo, tvameva pratyaksham brahmasi
Salutations to Brahman, salutations to thee O Vayu — thou alone art the visible Brahman. (Taittiriya Upanishad 1.1, Shanti-mantra) — recited at the start of Veda study.
How to recite
Wake before dawn, snan, Sandhya, and a long morning havan with at least 16 ahuti-mantras drawn from each of the four Vedas (Rig, Yajur, Sama, Atharva). Read at least one mandala-rik from the Rigveda and the corresponding bhashya by Maharshi Dayananda. Many Arya Samaj mandirs hold a full day Veda-paath sammelan with chanting from all four Vedas. Honour your Veda-guru / acharya with dakshina.
Benefits
Ashadh Shukla Purnima is held in Vedic tradition to be the day Maharshi Vyasa compiled and divided the eternal Veda into its four sections (Rig, Yajur, Sama, Atharva) at the start of Kali Yuga, and the day he began the dictation of the Mahabharata to Ganesha. Arya Samaj observes it as Veda Prakatya Diwas — the day the Vedas became 'manifest' in human civilization. Also coincides with Guru Purnima (Vyas Purnima) and is honoured as the day of the para-guru (the Veda itself) and of one's own acharya.
✦ Special Note
Per Drik Panchang. Ashadh Shukla Purnima / Guru Purnima 2026: July 29. Ashadh Shukla Purnima 2027: July 19. Also widely observed across all Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain traditions — but Arya Samaj's emphasis on Veda-paath rather than guru-puja is distinctive.
