Mantra

ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्

Om bhur bhuvah svah tat savitur varenyam bhargo devasya dheemahi dhiyo yo nah prachodayat

We meditate on the divine effulgence of the Sun (Savitar) — the most adorable, the most worthy of praise — may He inspire and direct our intellect. (Rigveda 3.62.10 — the Gayatri Mantra)

How to recite

Recite the Gayatri Mantra a minimum of 108 times (one full mala) on a tulsi or rudraksha mala, ideally seated facing east at sunrise. Many Arya Samaj practitioners commit to 1,008 recitations on Gayatri Jayanti. Perform an expanded Gayatri-yajna with 24 ahutis (one for each syllable of the Gayatri). Read the Gayatri-bhashya from Maharshi Dayananda's commentary.

Benefits

Jyeshtha Shukla Ekadashi is observed as the day Maharshi Vishvamitra received and revealed the Gayatri Mantra (Rigveda 3.62.10). For Arya Samaj, the Gayatri is the most central Vedic mantra — recited at every Sandhya, every Havan, every Yajnopavit ceremony, and is the very heart of Arya practice. Maharshi Dayananda taught that the Gayatri belongs to all human beings without restriction of caste, gender or birth — a radical position in 1875 that reshaped Hindu society.
