Vasant Panchami — observed on Magha Shukla Panchami as the day of Vedmata Saraswati / Veda-vani. Arya Samaj observes it as the day to begin or renew Veda-paath, to perform the vidyarambha-samskara for children, and to honour Saraswati as the eternal Vedic Vak (speech) — not as a murti-form goddess.

Dates 2026–2027

January 23, 2026February 11, 2027

Mantra

ॐ सरस्वत्यै नमः। ॐ वेदमात्रे नमः।

Om sarasvatyai namah, Om vedamatre namah

Salutations to Saraswati, salutations to the Mother of the Vedas — the divine Vak (speech) that became the four Vedas.

How to recite

Wake before dawn, snan, Sandhya, and an extended morning havan dedicated to Saraswati as Veda-vani. Begin or renew your Veda-paath — many Arya children begin their first Sanskrit/Veda lessons (vidyarambha-samskara) on this day. Recite the Vagambhrini Sukta (Rigveda 10.125 — Saraswati's own self-revelation as the eternal speech). Wear yellow, decorate the home and havan-kund with yellow flowers.

Benefits

For Arya Samaj, Saraswati is not the murti-form goddess of mainstream Hinduism but the Vedic Vak — the eternal divine speech that became manifest as the four Vedas. Vasant Panchami is the day to begin or renew Veda study, and to perform the vidyarambha-samskara for children. The yellow colour (basanti) of mustard fields in bloom at this season has been honoured in Vedic culture for thousands of years as the colour of Brahma-jnana.
