Vaazhka Andalar Vaazhka Arangar Vaazhka — and the opening of Tiruvaymozhi: Uyarvara uyar nalam udayavan

Long live Andal, long live Ranganatha — the closing chant of the Adhyayana Utsavam at Srirangam.

How to recite

Recite at least one decade of Tiruvaymozhi (the 1102 verses of Sri Nammazhwar) every day for 22 days starting from Margazhi Shukla Ekadashi (Vaikuntha Ekadashi). The first 10 days are Pagal Pathu (daytime ten) and the last 10 days are Ra Pathu (nighttime ten). At Srirangam, the entire Divya Prabandham is recited before Namperumal.

Benefits

The Adhyayana Utsavam (also called Tiruvadhyayana Utsavam) is the most sacred 22-day festival in the Sri Vaishnava year. Reciting the Tiruvaymozhi during Margazhi grants the same merit as a year of Vedic tapasya. Sri Nammazhwar is held to attain final union with Ranganatha at the closing 'Tiruvaymozhi Sevakalam' on Sattumurai day.

✦ Special Note

Srirangam is the spiritual centre of this festival. Every divya-desam across Tamil Nadu and Andhra holds simultaneous adhyayana. The Iyengar (Sri Vaishnava brahmin) community participates by reciting the Prabandham at home daily. Dates follow the SriVaishnava Calendar of Srirangam Srimad Andavan Ashramam (andavan.org/srivaishnavacalendar/), Tenkalai convention; Vadakalai households may observe Ahobila Mutt Panchangam dates, which can differ by a day on some Ekadashi/Utsav observances.
