Mantra

स्वामिनारायण स्वामिनारायण / Swaminarayan Swaminarayan

Swaminarayan mahamantra — observed today as solemn remembrance jap

O Swaminarayan! O Swaminarayan!

How to recite

Spend the day in extra mahamantra jaap, reading from Pramukh Swami's published works (vachanamruts, ashirwad), and watching recorded video darshan from the BAPS archives. Visit a BAPS mandir for the special remembrance assembly. Reflect on Pramukh Swami Maharaj's 95-year life of continuous service — and on Mahant Swami Maharaj as his successor pragat guru, which Pramukh Swami had designated in 2012.

Benefits

On August 13, 2016, Pragat Brahmaswarup Pramukh Swami Maharaj returned to Akshardham at 6:00 PM at Sarangpur after a 95-year life of service. He had been the guru of BAPS for 45 years (1971–2016). His succession had been arranged 4 years prior — Mahant Swami Maharaj had been formally designated as the next pragat guru in 2012. The transition was therefore seamless and the BAPS satsang continues unbroken.

✦ Special Note

Per the official BAPS calendar (baps.org). Although a sorrowful day, BAPS theology teaches that the guru is never truly absent — Aksharbrahman is eternal, and the mission continues unbroken through Mahant Swami Maharaj as the pragat guru. Watch baps.tv for the special live programs broadcast from Sarangpur (Pramukh Swami's samadhi-place).
