Sant Muktabai Punyatithi — Vaishakh Krishna Dashami 1297 CE. Muktabai (Mauli's younger sister) was translated bodily into the form of lightning at Mehun on the banks of the Tapi during a thunderstorm — her body never recovered. Her vidyut-jyoti samadhi at Mehun is the only sant-samadhi in Warkari tradition that has no physical samadhi-marker.
Dates 2026–2027
Mantra
मुक्ताई माउली की जय
Muktai Mauli ki Jaya
Victory to Sant Muktabai — Mauli's sister-mother who comforted him in his deepest sorrow.
How to recite
Sing the abhangas of Sant Muktabai and her famous 'Tatiche abhanga' — the abhangas she composed standing outside the closed door (tati) when Mauli, in despair at being denied caste-recognition, locked himself away. Visit Mehun if possible (Muktabai's samadhi-place on the Tapi).
Benefits
Sant Muktabai (1279-1297) was the youngest of the four Apegaon siblings — Nivruttinath, Dnyaneshwar, Sopankaka, and Muktabai. Though only 18 at her vidyut-jyoti (translation into the form of lightning) at Mehun on Vaishakh Krishna Dashami 1297 CE, she was the spiritual elder-sister who taught Mauli himself with her Tatiche abhanga. Her grace gives the strength to forgive every social wound.
✦ Special Note
The Tatiche abhanga of Muktabai is recited daily at every Warkari kirtan to remind the saint-aspirant that no social wound is greater than Vitthal's love. Per the Marathi Drik Panchang (Amanta system) — Vaishakh Krishna Dashami.
