Aksharbrahman Gunatitanand Swami Jayanti — Aso Sud 15 (Sharad Purnima) — the appearance day of the first Aksharbrahman guru of BAPS. Coincides with the cool full-moon night when devotees offer kheer prasad under the moon. The single most important guru-jayanti for BAPS theologically — Gunatitanand Swami is the eternal Akshardham, the dwelling of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, in human form. Bhagwan Swaminarayan declared: 'Where Gunatitanand Swami is, there am I.'

Mantra

स्वामिनारायण स्वामिनारायण / Swaminarayan Swaminarayan

Swaminarayan mahamantra — chanted continuously by Gunatitanand Swami at Junagadh

O Swaminarayan! O Swaminarayan!

How to recite

Visit a BAPS mandir for the grand Sharad Purnima utsav (Gunatitanand Swami Jayanti coincides with Sharad Purnima). Read from the Swamini Vato — the 1,478 priceless spiritual instructions of Gunatitanand Swami, recorded by his disciples. Perform Swaminarayan mahamantra jaap. Take the Sharad Purnima kheer prasad — milk-rice-saffron-cardamom kheer placed under moonlight then offered to the Lord.

Benefits

Aksharbrahman Gunatitanand Swami (1785–1867) is the first Aksharbrahman guru of the BAPS line — the eternal divine abode (Aksharbrahman) of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, manifest as a sadhu. Bhagwan Swaminarayan personally identified him: 'This is My Akshardham. Worship Him as you worship Me.' He served as the mahant of Junagadh mandir for 40 years and gave the spiritual instructions later compiled as the Swamini Vato — the foundational scripture of the Akshar-Purushottam Darshan.

✦ Special Note

Per the official BAPS calendar (baps.org). The combination of Sharad Purnima (the most spiritually charged full moon of the year) + Gunatitanand Swami Jayanti makes this one of the most attended utsavs at every BAPS mandir worldwide. The Sharad Purnima kheer prasad is the signature offering. Visit Junagadh (Gunatitanand Swami's seat for 40 years) if possible.
