Benefits
Lord Dattatreya — the three-headed avatar of Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva, the supreme guru-tattva — is venerated in Karnataka Lingayat alongside Shiva. Margashirsha Purnima is his appearance day. The Karnataka Datta-pithas at Ganagapura, Audumbara, and Narsobawadi draw lakhs of Lingayat and broader Hindu devotees on this day. The Datta-tradition emphasises the eternal guru-tattva — the same supreme reality that Lingayats worship as the Ishtalinga.
✦ Special Note
Per the Kannada Drik Panchang. Ganagapura (Karnataka) is the principal Datta-pilgrimage for Karnataka Lingayats — visit if possible.
