Anubhava Mantapa Sthapana Din — Akshaya Tritiya per the Kannada Drik Panchang — celebrates Basavanna's establishment of the Anubhava Mantapa at Kalyana (~1160 CE), the world's first democratic spiritual academy where 770 Sharanas of all castes, genders, and professions composed the Vacana corpus through open dialogue. Observed at every Lingayat matha worldwide.

Mantra
ಓಂ ಶ್ರೀ ಗುರು ಬಸವಲಿಂಗಾಯ ನಮಃ
Om Shri Guru Basavalingaya Namah
Salutations to Sri Guru Basavalinga — the founder of the Anubhava Mantapa
How to recite
Visit the local Lingayat matha for the special founding-day pravachana. Read from the Vacana corpus — particularly Basavanna's vacanas with the ankita 'Kudalasangamadeva' on equality, kayaka, and dasoha. Hold and worship the Ishtalinga. Reflect on the Anubhava Mantapa's revolutionary social principles: equality of all castes, equality of women, dignity of labour (kayaka), charitable sharing (dasoha), and direct experience (anubhava) over scriptural authority.
Benefits
Anubhava Mantapa Sthapana Din celebrates Basavanna's establishment of the Anubhava Mantapa (Hall of Spiritual Experience) at Kalyana (modern Basavakalyan, Bidar district) around 1160 CE. The world's first democratic spiritual academy — open to all castes, both genders, all professions — where 770 Sharanas including Allama Prabhu (presiding), Akkamahadevi, Channabasavanna, Siddharama, Madivala Machideva (washerman), Doharakakkayya (leather-worker), and many others composed the Vacana corpus through open dialogue. The greatest social-spiritual revolution of medieval India.
✦ Special Note
Per the Kannada Drik Panchang. The reconstructed Anubhava Mantapa at Basavakalyan (Bidar district) is the principal pilgrimage spot. Visit if possible — the New Anubhava Mantapa (under construction since 2018, inaugurated 2024) is one of the largest Lingayat memorial complexes in the world. Dates per the Kannada Drik Panchang (drikpanchang.com, Karnataka reckoning); jayanti/lingaikya days cross-checked with the Suttur Math, Murugha Math (Chitradurga), Rambhapuri Pitha and Kashi Pitha almanacs.
