Benefits
Akkamahadevi (12th century) is the supreme woman-sharana of the Sharana movement. Born in Udatadi village, married briefly to King Kaushika, she renounced household life at 16 to pursue Lord Channamallikarjuna of Srisailam. She walked naked clothed only in her own hair to Srisaila, joined the Anubhava Mantapa where Allama Prabhu and Basavanna recognised her supreme spiritual state, and finally attained lingaikya at Kadali Vana (Srisaila) at the young age of 25. She authored ~430 vacanas, the most celebrated Yogangatrividhi treatise, and the Mantragopya.
✦ Special Note
Per the Kannada Drik Panchang. Akkamahadevi's birth-village Udatadi (modern Shimoga district) and her samadhi-place Kadali Vana (Srisaila region) are both pilgrimage spots. The Akkamahadevi Vacana Sahitya is read at every matha today. Dates per the Kannada Drik Panchang (drikpanchang.com, Karnataka reckoning); jayanti/lingaikya days cross-checked with the Suttur Math, Murugha Math (Chitradurga), Rambhapuri Pitha and Kashi Pitha almanacs.
