Om Shri Guru Channabasava Devaya Namah
Salutations to Sri Guru Channabasava — Basavanna's chief disciple and theological systematiser
How to recite
Visit the local Lingayat matha for special pravachana. Read selected Vacanas of Channabasavanna and his foundational treatise the Karana Hasuge (the systematic exposition of the Shatsthala — six stages of spiritual progress in Lingayat siddhanta). Hold and worship the Ishtalinga. If possible, plan a pilgrimage to Ulavi (Uttara Kannada) where Channabasavanna attained lingaikya.
Benefits
Channabasavanna (1142–1167 CE) was Basavanna's nephew (sister Nagamamba's son) and the chief theological systematiser of the Lingayat siddhanta. His Karana Hasuge codifies the Shatsthala (Bhakta-Maheshvara-Prasadi-Pranalingi-Sharana-Aikya — the six stages of spiritual progress culminating in lingaikya). After the Kalyana revolution (1167), he led the dispersal of the Vacana manuscripts to safe locations, attaining lingaikya at Ulavi at age 25.
✦ Special Note
Per the Kannada Drik Panchang. Channabasavanna's samadhi at Ulavi (Uttara Kannada district) hosts the annual Ulavi Channabasava Jatra — one of the principal Lingayat pilgrimages of the year. Dates per the Kannada Drik Panchang (drikpanchang.com, Karnataka reckoning); jayanti/lingaikya days cross-checked with the Suttur Math, Murugha Math (Chitradurga), Rambhapuri Pitha and Kashi Pitha almanacs.
