Radhashtami celebrates the appearance of Srimati Radharani — the eternal consort and divine energy (hladini-shakti) of Lord Krishna — on Bhadra Shukla Ashtami, 15 days after Janmashtami. She is the queen of Vrindavan and the embodiment of pure, selfless devotional love

Hare Krishna Maha-mantra

O Hare! — 'Hare' refers to Srimati Radharani. The maha-mantra especially pleases Radharani, who then bestows Krishna's mercy on the devotee

How to recite

Chant with special attention to 'Hare' — the name of Radharani. Offer lotus and kadamba flowers to her deity. Sing Radha-stuti and kirtan in her glorification. Hear the Radha-Krishna pastimes from Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 10.

Benefits

Srimati Radharani intercedes on behalf of any devotee who sincerely prays to her. Fasting and chanting on her appearance day is said to grant devotional service in her eternal company in Vrindavan.

✦ Special Note

ISKCON devotees fast until noon on Radhashtami, then break with a special prasadam feast after abhishek and arati of Radharani's deity. Offer her red and white flowers, recite Radha-stuti, and meditate on her selfless devotion to Krishna.
