Hariyali Teej — Shravana Shukla Tritiya, the Marwari women's monsoon festival. Bishnoi women wear green, apply mehendi, gather under decorated khejri trees for swings and bhajan, and offer ghewar to Parvati. The festival's tree-swing tradition is observed with care not to damage bark — a quiet enactment of niyam #16.

Mantra

विष्णो विष्णो तू भजे रे प्राणी

Vishno Vishno tu bhaje re prani

O living being, chant Vishnu, chant Vishnu — Jambhoji's mool mantra, recited on Hariyali Teej (Marwari Bishnoi Women).

How to recite

Hariyali Teej (Shravana Shukla Tritiya, third day of bright monsoon fortnight) is the Marwari women's celebration of the monsoon and the divine union of Parvati and Shiva. Bishnoi women rise early, bathe, wear green saris (the color of the monsoon and of the Bishnoi panth), apply mehendi, and gather under decorated khejri or peepal trees for swings, songs, and bhajan. Offer ghewar and malpua to Parvati. Pray for the longevity of husbands and the welfare of the family. The day is observed without harm to any tree-branch — only deadfall is used for any ritual fire.

Benefits

Hariyali Teej is one of the year's three Teej festivals (Hariyali, Kajari, Hartalika). For Marwari Bishnoi women, Hariyali Teej carries special weight — the green of the monsoon mirrors the green of the Bishnoi panth and the Khejri tree's foliage flush. The festival's tradition of swings hung from trees is observed with ropes tied carefully so as not to damage the bark — a quiet enactment of niyam #16 even in celebration.
