Mantra

विष्णो विष्णो तू भजे रे प्राणी

Vishno Vishno tu bhaje re prani

O living being, chant Vishnu, chant Vishnu — Jambhoji's mool mantra, the most fitting recitation on the day of guru worship.

How to recite

On Ashadh Purnima morning: bathe before dawn, perform sandhya, and offer flowers and tulsi at Guru Jambheshwar's image or charan paduka. Recite the entire Shabadvani (Jambhoji's 120 sacred shabads) if able, or selected shabads if time-pressed. Many Bishnoi families undertake yatra to Mukam, Lalasar Sathari, or their village's Bishnoi mandir for collective bhajan and pravachan from the village panch. In the evening: havan with dry deadfall, recite the 29 niyams aloud, and end with Jambhoji's aarti.

Benefits

Guru Purnima is the day Bishnois venerate Guru Jambheshwar (1451–1536 CE) — the Vishnu-bhakta from Pipasar village (Nagaur, Rajasthan) who founded the panth in 1485 CE on Samrathal Dhora and gave the world the 29 niyams. While Guru Purnima is observed across India, for Bishnois it has the special character of being the day the panth's spiritual lineage is renewed — every village Bishnoi sabha holds pravachan and bhajan, and the 29 niyams are recited collectively.
