Mantra

विष्णो विष्णो तू भजे रे प्राणी

Vishno Vishno tu bhaje re prani

O living being, chant Vishnu, chant Vishnu — Jambhoji's mool mantra, recited on Vat Savitri Amavasya (Banyan Tree Worship).

How to recite

Vat Savitri Amavasya (Jyeshtha Krishna Amavasya in North Indian Purnimanta) is the day married Bishnoi women worship the Vat (banyan) tree, praying for the long life of their husbands — invoking Savitri, who in the Mahabharata won her husband Satyavan back from Yama. Wake before dawn, bathe, dress in fresh clothes (red, yellow, or Bishnoi green), and visit the village vat-vriksha. Tie a sacred red-yellow thread around the trunk seven times while circumambulating, offer fresh fruits, jaggery, water, and turmeric. Recite the Savitri-Satyavan story. Observe the standard amavasya fast. The banyan is one of the trees explicitly protected by the 29 niyams — the worship is enacted with exceptional reverence.

Benefits

Vat Savitri merges three deep Bishnoi commitments — amavasya fasting (niyam #14), married women's vrats (a strong Marwari tradition), and tree-veneration (niyams #16, #17). The banyan tree, symbol of immortality and rooted strength, is one of the four trees Bishnois will defend as fiercely as the Khejri. The annual worship renews the women's vow to protect both their families and the trees.
