Ayyappa Mandala Vratham — 41-day vrata of the Sabarimala season (Vrishchikam–Dhanu, Nov–Dec). Mala from Guruswamy on Vrishchikam 1, then strict vegetarianism, celibacy, black/dark blue attire, no footwear, and daily puja for 41 days, culminating in Sabarimala pilgrimage with Irumudi-kettu.

I take refuge in Lord Ayyappa, the Swami. Salutations to Sri Ayyappa.

How to recite

Mala dharanam on Vrishchikam 1, then 41 days of strict vegetarian diet, brahmacharya, black/dark blue attire, no footwear, daily Sharanam Ayyappa kirtan, cold-water bathing twice daily, no shaving. Culminate with the Sabarimala pilgrimage and Irumudi-kettu on the 41st day. Same observance pattern as the 2026–27 season.

Benefits

The 41-day Mandala observance is said to purify body, mind and senses, with the Sabarimala pilgrimage with Irumudi considered equal to a full Tirtha-yatra. Ayyappa, born of Hari-Hara, unites Vaishnava and Shaiva streams.

2027–28 season: Nov 17, 2027 (Mala dharanam) – Dec 27, 2027 (41st day, approx). Mandala Pooja at Sabarimala falls within this window. Makaravilakku follows on Jan 14, 2028.
