Akshaya Navami / Amla Navami — Kartik Shukla Navami — any pious act performed today yields akshaya (inexhaustible) merit. The unique observance: a meal is cooked beneath an amla (gooseberry) tree — sacred to Vishnu — and shared with brahmins and family. Vrindavan's famous 84-kos Braj Parikrama also begins on this day.
